GENERAL INFO

Scientific Name: Acrantophis dumerili

Native Habitat: Madagascar

Lifespan: 15-20 years

Size: up to 6' in length

DIFFICULTY

Temperament: Calm and deliberate

Ease of handling: They tend to be very slow moving and deliberate in their actions, and tolerate handling well. That being said, they are capable of delivering a strong bite.
Skill level: Intermediate, while their care requirements are beginning level, due to their size and strength we recommended having previous snake experience.

Activity level: Cathemeral, and slow moving.

ENCLOSURE

Duméril's should be housed in an enclosure that allows them to fully stretch out their body length. A 6x2x2' is recommended for an adult that is 6' in length.

ENVIRONMENT

Temperature: Basking spot should be around 30°C, with the cool end between 21-24°C.

Lighting: UVB has been proven to improve the health and activity levels of reptiles.

Humidity: 40-60%, the higher end reserved for boas in shed.

Substrate: Bioactive soil, coconut husk, coconut fiber, organic topsoil, plenty of leaf litter.

ENRICHMENT

2 hides, one on each end of the enclosure. Duméril's are from the dryer forest regions of Madagascar, they enjoy hiding and blend in well with leaf litter. Rocks, branches, hollow logs, corkbark, and plants will provide them with nice enrichment.

DIET

Any feeder prey item, such as rodents, chicks, quails, guinea pigs, rabbits, etc. Boas have a voracious appetite, be careful not to overfeed.
